Hawk eggs hatch at Franklin Institute

CENTER CITY - April 25, 2011

Two red tail hawks hatched on Easter Sunday and a third hatched Monday afternoon.

This is the third year in a row the family of red tail hawks have nested on a window ledge at the building along the Ben Franklin Parkway.

The baby hawks are expected to take their first flights in early June. By the end of June, they will leave the nest for good.

The Franklin Institute has set up a camera to monitor the progress of the chicks and their mother.
