Gunmen hold-up Upper Darby bar

UPPER DARBY, Pa. - May 18, 2011

"It's no fun coming to work anymore. It's no fun at all," Jack Scanlan of Lennon's Bar said.

Jack is glad he wasn't working at Lennon's Bar early yesterday morning when the robbery took place.

The bartender on duty and his customers found themselves staring down the barrel of a gun as three robbers barged in through the back door.

"These guys are thugs, there's no other way to describe them. Thank God nobody got hurt, but they're ready for war when they walk into these joints," Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said.

Chitwood is calling these robbers "urban terrorists."

Video surveillance captured the gunmen as they first locked the front door and then went straight for a regular customer.

The customer is a waiter who always carries his cash tips after work and the robbers seemed to know he'd be there.

Another gunman went behind the bar and went straight for the cash register and then a small wooden box that's also stuffed with cash.

"They knew what they were doing when they walked in; they knew right away where to go, where to look, and everything else, so they obviously scoped it out," Scanlan said.

They got $250 off the customer and $1,000 from the bar.

Two women were in the bathroom when the gunmen barged in.

They tried to slip out the back door, but one of the robbers came running to stop them.

The robbers worked quickly, then ran out the back door.

Police believe they know the bar well.

"They're probably from the neighborhood; they probably have been inside this location," Chitwood said.

The gunmen were wearing masks and rubber gloves, but the police are hoping the video of them may ring a bell with someone.
