Firefighters were called out to the 3800 block of Fairmount Avenue around 4:30 a.m. after receiving several reports of a home on fire and someone trapped inside.
Arriving firefighters found flames shooting from the home and quickly went to work battling the blaze.
The man was able to escape the fire on his own before firefighters arrived and was not injured.
Crews worked to contain the blaze, which destroyed the home and caused some damage to an adjoining vacant home.
There is no word on what sparked the fire.
