Two dead in multiple shootings in North Phila.

PHILADELPHIA - June 12, 2011

Bullet casings littered the ground at 24th and West Oxford, and as crime scene investigators scoured the area for clues, neighborhood residents sat nearby.

Many seemed unaffected by the triple shooting.

"We have some leads," said Deputy Commissioner Kevin Bethel. "Obviously there are witnesses in the area. We'll be canvassing the area, doing our best to find out what happened out here."

Police are trying to gather surveillance video from the Mini Market.

Police only have a vague description of the suspect, a black male 5'9" to 5'10", around 200lbs. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, green shorts, and black and white sneakers.

Police say the third victim was shot in the foot. He ran a couple of blocks to his home where he was taken to a local hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.

A short time after the first three shootings, police respond to a shooting scene a mile and a half away at 17th and Cumberland Street, also in North Philadelphia, where two more people were shot.

Police say a man in his 20s was found in the 2400 block of North Bouvier with a gunshot wound in the stomach.

Another victim was shot in the arm near 18th and Cumberland.

Both men are listed in stable condition.

No arrests have been made in either set of shootings.

"We'll continue to deploy. We'll continue to send a message to the individuals, who want to involve themselves in gun play, and we're going to move more resources out here to address that, and we'll see how things go, but it's a tough pocket," said Bethel.

Deputy Commissioner Kevin Bethel says the 22nd District has seen an uptick in violence recently. One investigator said he was wishing for rain Sunday night to maybe clear the streets and maybe dampen the gun play the summer heat can bring.
