Taco Truck on the move

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - July 5, 2011

On-board chef Gary Brytczuk says the food is similar to what Garces serves as his Distrito location, but with twists.

Tacos are the backbone of the menu. There's a green chili and chicken version, one made with slow-simmered beef short ribs, and another made from fish.

Other selections include esquites, tamales, a tostada verde and homemade guacamole. You can also get pork carnitas and duck barbacoa. There's a limited beverage menu. No dessert, but a neighboring truck is always parked nearby if you have room for something sweet.

Prices are higher than you'd find at a fast-food restaurant, but you're buying two pieces, not one, and the ingredients are more sit-down restaurant quality.

The truck has a festive look, adding to the Mexican street food feel the owners intend. The exterior is covered with a pattern of bottle caps which had to be affixed one-by-one.

Weekdays, you'll find the truck parked on the 16th Street side of Love Park, along JFK Boulevard.

Weekends it may be booked for special appearances, provided that the party is large enough.

Generally, they expect to serve events with at least 100 guests.

Most trips are to locations in Philadelphia and the nearby suburbs, but it has been booked down the shore.

The easiest way to find its current location and hours is via Twitter. http://twitter.com/#!/guapostacos.
