Neighbor saves woman from house fire

RIVERSIDE TWP., N.J. - July 10, 2011

Around 8:00 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to Spring Garden Street in Riverside.

Neighbor Adam Swartz tells Action News that he ran inside of the burning home when he saw smoke.

He rescued a woman from inside the home, as well as her two dogs.

He then tried to find her cat.

"As debris started falling around me, when the debris started falling around, and the windows starting breaking in close to me, at that point, there wasn't much I could do…I could barely see, as it was, nor breathe," Swartz said. When the fire department arrived, there were heavy flames in the rear of the home.

Firefighters were able to locate the cat who is undergoing medical treatment.

The fire department was able to knock down the blaze within 20 minutes.
