Authorities say Gabriel Rosado split Officer Franco Sydnor's lip early Saturday.
Rosado is held on four charges, including aggravated assault on a police officer.
His attorney, Joseph Levin, told The Press of Atlantic City Rosado was simply returning to his room at Bally's Atlantic City when he was stopped for no reason.
Five others in his entourage, including off-duty Philadelphia Police Officer Eliezer Morales, were charged. The three-year veteran of the force will be assigned to administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office will decide whether to present the case to a grand jury or lower the charge to simple assault.
