The Kimmel Center's treat for Beethoven fans

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - November 6, 2011

Sir John Elliot Gardiner, one of the world's foremost authorities on Beethoven, is coming to the Kimmel Center. And for audience members, the concert will be like a walk back in time.

Matt Wolf, VP of Programming at the Kimmel Center said, "The Orchestre Révolutionnaire et Romantique is a wonderful European ensemble. The mission of the orchestra is to recreate the performances of the great Beethoven symphonies as if you were hearing them during the days of Beethoven."

That means the musicians play on the instruments that would have been used in Beethoven's time.

"The performance is going to be precise. It's going to be very emotional. It's going to be very, very colorful. It's going to be something different than you've seen before," added Wolf.

The concert is part of the Kimmel Center's Great Orchestra Series. And while the performance may be unique, the repertoire is classic Beethoven….the Egmont Overture and Beethoven's 3rd and 5th Symphonies.

Wolf stated, "You won't see an interpretation of Beethoven's classics done this way when you add the period instruments to just the world renowned level that Sir John has. It's really shaping up to be one of the most spectacular symphony concerts you're going to see this season."

The concert is one night only, Tuesday, November 15th in the Kimmel Center's Verizon Hall. Go to the Kimmel Center for tickets.
