Police shoot suspect who tried to run over officer

NORTH PHILADELPHIA - January 11, 2012

The incident happened near Glenwood Avenue and York Street around 9:40 p.m.

Authorities say a plain-clothes officer was injured when the driver of a car tried to run him over.

During the altercation, an officer discharged his gun once, striking the suspect in the shoulder.

The wounded suspect, who managed to drive to Sedgley and Susquehanna avenues before crashing, was rushed to Temple University Hospital. He is expected to survive.

The officer who was injured is also expected to be okay.

Officers at the scene say the car was suspected of being stolen.
