Driver charged after man struck, killed at bus stop

BELLEFONTE, Del. - January 22, 2012

It happened around 7:00 a.m. on Philadelphia Pike in Bellefonte.

Police say the driver, 26-year-old Elton Paynter, was heading southbound before losing control of his vehicle and crossing over to the other side of the road.

The vehicle struck a 52-year-old man and a parked car before stopping in a parking lot.

Medics pronounced the male victim dead on the scene.

Two passengers in the car were injured and one was later arrested for marijuana possession.

Both were treated at Christiana Hospital Trauma Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Paynter was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide and driving under the influence.

He remains in custody after failing to post bail.
