Homeowner catches glimpse of Chester Co. burglars

NEW GARDEN TWP., Pa. - February 2, 2012

Usually they're in and out quickly before anyone notices. But, this time, the homeowner was in the house when they broke in.

Cindy Panasuk was home alone when the burglars drove right up to her front door.

"Heard the doorbell ring, but I decided not to answer it because I saw a car come very quickly into my driveway and I wasn't expecting anybody," Panasuk said.

When no one answered, the burglars kicked in the front door.

Cindy caught a glimpse of one of them as she ran out the back door.

As she ran for help, they helped themselves to her stuff.

She's just glad no one got hurt.

The police say other neighbors got a good look at the car as it sped off.

It was a steel gray Dodge Charger with a handicapped card hanging from the rear view mirror.

The suspect who entered the house is described only as a black man with a green knit cap.

The suspect driving the car is described as a large white man about 20 to 25 years old with short dark brown hair and a chinstrap beard.

He was wearing dark clothing.

The descriptions are a breakthrough for police since most burglars get away unseen.

"You don't usually have eyewitness testimony so this certainly helps us at least have something to go on to hopefully bring it to a successful conclusion," New Garden Township Police Chief Jerry Simpson said.

Residents of the area have been uneasy since the rash of burglaries started.

"It's a neighborhood where it's pretty quiet, everybody has about an acre so it's really hard to see what anybody else is doing here," neighbor Steve Moyer said.

The police are hoping the description of the burglars and their car will lead to a breakthrough tip.
