Courthouse is going to the dog

TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - March 23, 2012

The Pierce County courts are getting a resident pooch.

Kiley, 2-year-old yellow Lab, will be the new courthouse dog.

She's been trained like a service dog and lives with Michelle Walker, a manager for the prosecutor's office.

Walker says Kiley will be a pal not a guard.

She adds the friendly Lab can help calm witnesses or victims in a stressful courtroom situation.

A local paper reports the courthouse dog will be getting a one-year test.
