Gunmen grab $7,000 from Phila. family

WYNNEFIELD - April 25, 2012

The crime happened around 1:00 a.m. at a home on the 5300 block of Morse Street in the Wynnefield section of Philadelphia.

Police say a man, his pregnant girlfriend and their son were getting out of their car in their driveway when the suspects approached them. Two men with guns approched them as the boy was asleep in the back seat.

Detectives say the robbers knew the names of the victims and knew there was a safe in the house. It was where the couple kept money from the two water ice shops that they own.

The gunmen forced the couple into the home to get money out of the safe while their son remained asleep in the car.

After getting the cash from the safe, the two men fled the scene.

Police say no one was hurt.

The couple is not sure if they were followed or if the gunmen were waiting for them.

They are also concerned the gunmen might know their family, because they referred to the victims' brother during the course of the armed robbery.
