Ian McGreevey is expected to make a full recovery.
His father, Ken, tells The Record newspaper it was the best present his wife could receive on Mother's Day.
The 8-year-old Northvale resident was playing on Saturday when he tried to steal third base and was hit in the chest by a ball thrown by the catcher. The boy collapsed.
The mother of a player from the opposing team, Maureen Renaghan, checked the boy's pulse and began performing CPR. She managed to get him breathing before paramedics arrived.
The third-grader will wear a heart monitor for the time being.
