The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board signed off on the expansion Wednesday. Sugarhouse officials say the improvements will cost about $155 million and create 450 new permanent jobs at the casino, which opened in September 2010.
The approved changes include parking, the expansion of the current gaming space and the addition of a new space for events and conferences. Casino officials say construction should take about two years.
Pennsylvania has 11 casinos, the first of which opened in 2006. State law calls for a second casino in Philadelphia and six groups are currently vying for that license.
