Jennifer and Iain Siery, first-time parents of four-month-old Owen, were the lucky winners of a $500 shopping spree at the giant Just Between Friends consignment sale in Glen Mills.
We joined them to see just how far that money could go.
Iain Siery said, "The stuff here is great quality and it looks like, what we've seen so far, it's just like buying new stuff for reduced prices."
The sale features about 100,000 items from about 700 consigners.
First on the Sierys list -- an umbrella stroller. Jennifer had been advised by a co-worker to look for one
with a basket under the seat. She found one in like-new condition for just $15.
Next, they picked up a rocker-glider with a rocking footstool for $75.Iain's parents were watching Owen while the couple shopped -- and I wondered if they had a high chair at their house. When Jennifer found an adjustable-height folding high-chair for just $12, she added it to their cart, for her in-laws.
She was also excited to shop for learning toys, explaining, "We need a crib mobile, we're looking for more learning toys. He's very interactive, seems he wants more input, more things to look at, more things to do."
We found a huge assortment of stacking rings, shape-sorters, musical toys and even and infant gym, all on sale for $5 or less. Meantime, Iain stocked up on Tonka trucks, like the ones he'd played with as a child.
The Sierys also bought Owen's entire summer wardrobe, including rompers, polo shirts, shorts, bathing suits and rashguard tops. Yet, they still weren't close to spending all of their winnings.JBF Sale owner Kate Horowitz says she'd warned them that might happen. "You can get so much here. We did tell them that they might have trouble."
The sale at The Brandywine Youth Club, 41 S. Thornton Road in Glen Mills, Pa., runs until 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 27, 2014; from 10:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014; from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2014, and from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2014. And on Sunday many of the remaining items are reduced to half-price.
