Carbon monoxide from a gas-powered generator was to blame for the deaths of four young men inside a Monroe County home, authorities said Sunday. Police identified the men as Michael Hopkins, 19, of Stroudsburg; Andrew Larson, 20, of Scotrun; Michael McGovern Jr., 19, of Stroudsburg; and Salvatore Facciponte, 19, of Stroudsburg. Their deaths were ruled accidental.

The bodies were found Saturday in a home in Winona Lakes in Middle Smithfield Township, state police in Swiftwater said. Emergency crews were called after a relative found the men unresponsive, police said.

The house had no electricity, and an electric space heater in the living room was connected to a gas-powered generator that was running in the basement.

Neighbors said the house had been vacant for three years.
