Drexel University says its new law school has received provisional accreditation from the American Bar Association.

That means graduates will be able take the bar exam in any jurisdiction in the United States. Upon passing, they can begin practicing professionally.

The bar association accredits law schools that meet its standards for legal education. Schools must be open for at least a year before they can apply for provisional accreditation.

Drexel's College of Law opened in August 2006. Its inaugural class of about 180 students is slated to graduate in the spring of 2009.

It was the first law school to open in the Philadelphia region in more than 30 years.
