Police: Remains are dead dog

WEST PHILADELPHIA - April 24, 2008 The remains were found around 3:00 p.m. at a home on the 4200 block of Fairmount Avenue.

A man called police after finding the remains buried in his backyard.

"The dirt on the ground seems to be freshly placed there," said Chief Ins. Scott Small. "All we see if about three inches of the top of a head. There's some dark colored hair. There are also some flies around the area, indicating it may have been there for a little while."

Police thought the remains were a baby. The medical examiner and homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Detectives began questioning the owner of the property.

Then, once they dug up the remains, they realized what they had found was not a baby at all, but a dog that recently died.
