Dunkin' Donuts pulls Rachael Ray ad

May 29, 2008

Ray was in the commercial wearing the black-and-white scarf that is popular in the Middle East.

But people have complained saying that it looks like a traditional Arab headdress, like the late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat wore, and that the scarf has come to symbolize murderous jihad.

Dunkin' Donuts said Ray's stylist picked the paisley-designed scarf and it was not meant to symbolize terrorism.

Ray is not the only celebrity who has worn the same kind of scarf. Rapper Kanye West appears in one of his videos with it.

Urban Outfitters used to sell the scarf in various colors. They got complaints and decided to pull it too.
