Phillies' Jenkins injured by broken bat

MIAMI (AP) - July 20, 2008 Jenkins came out of the game at Florida but is expected to be ready for the start of the Phillies' series Tuesday against the New York Mets.

He said he watched a videotape of the incident.

"I still don't know how it happened," he said.

Jenkins' ash bat broke on contact, and the left-handed hitter was struck in the right side near his neck. He fell to the dirt as his grounder was scooped up by second baseman Dan Uggla to start an inning-ending double play.

Jenkins quickly rose and left the field accompanied by a trainer.

Phils manager Charlie Manuel predicted that the recent trend in broken bats will lead to someone being seriously hurt.

"I see a lot of bats fly around," he said. "I think eventually you'll definitely see an injury."
