Nearly 1,700 Hawaii Army National Guard soldiers are getting ready to deploy to Kuwait.
Eleven-year-old Ashley Kakazu came up with the idea of sending the GIs off with a huge hug.
She's organizing an effort to set a new Guinness record for a group hug at the deployment ceremony set for August 16th at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu.
The middle-schooler is hoping to have 10,000 people pre-register for the event.
The current group hug record of 6,623 people was set in Mexico.
