PETA: Ben & Jerry's needs breast milk

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - September 25, 2008

PETA V.P. Tracy Reiman offers the idea in a letter to Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield, founders of the Vermont-based ice cream company.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says cows are forcibly impregnated every nine months, to keep them producing milk.

But don't expect to find a Yummy Mommy flavor joining Cherry Garcia and Chunky Monkey in the Ben and Jerry's lineup.

Ben and Jerry's spokeswoman Liz Brenna says the company believes a mother's milk is best used for her baby.
