They'll also take a pay cut to save a buddy's job.

Firefighters in Yonkers, N.Y., have agreed to work a shift without pay.

The money saved will restore the jobs of colleagues who were fired or demoted.

Their union approved the plan as part of a deal to save the department $450,000.

A dozen fire department members were laid off or demoted because of budget cuts, in the community just north of New York City.
