Stop smoking instead of Viagra?

Feburary 12, 2009 Because of drugs like Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra, sexual problems for men are no longer a hush-hush topic.

Dr. Jack Mydlo of Temple University Hospital says many men don't know there are basic health steps they should be taking before turning to drugs.

Top on his list - if you smoke...stop.

"Smoking constricts blood vessels all over the body. We know it's not good for the heart, it's not good for the lungs, but it's also not good for performance," Dr. Mydlo said.

A healthy diet, with lots of antioxidants from fruits and vegetables, can also make blood vessels healthier, as well as, cutting cholesterol, and keeping your weight down.

Dr. Mydlo also recommends exercise to tone up.

"When you lower the fat, you build up more muscle, you also have more testosterone," Dr. Mydlo said.

Finally, he says relieving stress and having a good emotional state are a must.
