Beer Week begins in Philadelphia

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - March 6, 2009

Major craft brewers from across the country will be in town, hoping to build on the success of last year's inaugural event.

Tom Peters, the owner of Monk's Tavern in downtown Philadelphia, is one of the organizers of Philly Beer Week. He says there will be more than 100 hundred venues and 400 or more events. He says it will be "the biggest beer festival in the country, period."

And it's not just relegated to Philadelphia. Taverns, restaurants and breweries will take part in the suburbs and in southern New Jersey.

Some venues will pair beer with particular dishes, while others will host tastings featuring the brewers.

Beer Week runs through March 15.
