McDonald's sued again over hot coffee

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - April 1, 2009 - Cheryl Cornair of Washington Township, Fayette County, says the boy was burned May 24 at the McDonald's on Route 201 near Belle Vernon.

Cornair says in her lawsuit that a server handed a cardboard drink holder to the boy, who suffered second-degree burns when the coffee spilled on his left leg.

A McDonald's spokesman says he cannot comment on the lawsuit, but says customer safety is the restaurant's top priority.

An 82-year-old New Mexico woman sued McDonald's for $2.7 million when she was scalded by coffee in 1994. An appeal reduced that to $640,000 and she later settled for an undisclosed amount.
