1 dead, 2 hurt in Del. crash

LAUREL, Del. (AP) - May 19, 2009 The crash was reported on U.S. Route 13 around 4:45 p.m. Monday.

Police say 19-year-old Steven Layton of Laurel failed to stop the Jeep Cherokee he was driving at a stop sign on Mount Zion Road at U.S. Route 13 and it was hit on the passenger side by a Chevrolet Suburban.

Police say 19-year-old Matthew Palmer of Laurel, the front-seat passenger in the Cherokee, was critically injured and flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he died early Tuesday.

Layton and the driver of the Suburban, 50-year-old Margaret Hertrich of Seaford, were taken to hospitals with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

Police say the crash is still under investigation.
