BANGKOK (AP) - May 27, 2009 They didn't even know the 7-year-old female was expecting. She'd
been been artificially inseminated months ago, but had given no
signs that she was pregnant.
The zoo director says the panda had been acting a little anxious
yesterday, then gave birth earlier today.
The cub screeched loudly as soon it was born, but seems to be
fine.
The U.S., Japan and Thailand are the only countries outside
China that have bred pandas through artificial insemination.
