The six - who were all wearing life jackets - were tossed from the sailboats after winds in the area grew stronger and made the seas more turbulent. However, they were soon spotted by crew members aboard the Legal Holiday, who came to their aid and notified Coast Guard Station Great Egg.

Three victims were soon pulled aboard a Coast Guard rescue boat, while the others were rescued by the Legal Holiday crew. The six were taken to the Ocean City Yacht Club.
