Prescription drugs stolen in carjacking

UPPER DARBY, Pa.- September 25, 2009 Police in Upper Darby say the van had pulled up to the Upper Darby Pharmacy on Long Lane to make a delivery around 10:45 a.m. Friday.

That's when three men reportedly approached the driver, and one put something to his back indicating a gun. The delivery driver was pushed into the van and tied up.

"Apparently they were waiting for this guy to pull up to the area and unload," said Superintendent of Police Michael Chitwood.

A half hour later the van stopped in the 6700 block of Essington Avenue in Southwest Philadelphia. There, the bandits unloaded thousands of dollars worth of pharmaceuticals into a car that may have been following them.

The men then took off.

Police say the driver was then able to get free and contact police. He was not hurt.

Police are now taking an inventory of what was stolen.

Investigators say the Upper Darby Pharmacy had just been robbed one month ago by two men. They have been arrested.
