Man safe after getting lost in southern NJ woods

HAMMONTON, N.J. - January 10, 2010

The 53-year-old man, who was not injured, went missing Saturday in an area near the Atlantic County community of Hammonton. Authorities began looking for the man and a state police helicopter crew eventually located him, but was unable to hoist him.

A rescue helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station in Atlantic City was dispatched to the scene just after 6 p.m. Saturday and was able to pull the man aboard.

He was flown to Atlantic City International Airport in Pomona, where he was transferred to emergency medical personnel.

It was still not clear Sunday how the man became lost, and his identity has not been released.
