Investigators say just before 3:00 on Monday morning, a car rammed into the police SUV on the 500 block of Adams Avenue in the Olney section of the city.
The accident caused the officer in the SUV to slam his head on the dashboard.
The officer then became disoriented.
Police say after the blue car ran into the patrol car, it sped down Adams Avenue.
Officers say they were able to track down the car and take a suspect into custody.
So far, police have not filed any charges.
The injured officer is in the hospital in stable condition with head and neck pain.
