Ambridge police say 31-year-old Rashawn Smith was discovered by the woman when she returned home about 12:15 p.m. Monday. Police say Smith destroyed a couch, ate food from the refrigerator, and tore pages from several books.
Smith allegedly ran away when the woman came home, but police caught him about four hours later.
He faces a preliminary hearing on Monday. Online court records don't list an attorney for Smith, who is charged with burglary and criminal mischief.
Ambridge is about 20 miles northwest of Pittsburgh.
