Seniors reminded of potential MRI, heart risks

March 29, 2010 A recent survey done by the National Council on Aging found one in five seniors with devices reported having problems with the device after having an MRI.

It's not that an MRI scan can never be done but there have to be certain safety precautions that have to be followed so that's why we're trying to get the word out about potential safety concerns with MRI scans and pacemakers and it's a discussion the patient needs to have with their physician," said Dr. Arnold Greenspon of Jefferson Medical College.

Dr. Greenspon says that discussion should include how patients will be monitored if they need an MRI.
