Twenty-four-year-old Luis Sanchez-Herrera is charged with first-degree assault, two counts of aggravated menacing and possession of a deadly weapon during a felony.
Investigators said the incident happened about 3 a.m. Saturday after a fight broke out when a party ended.
Police said the fight spilled into a bedroom, where Sanchez-Herrera picked up the sword and struck the male victim in the hand, causing an injury that required 20 stitches to close.
