Phila. woman hit, killed outside family gathering

JUNIATA PARK - May 2, 2010

It happened around 11:00 p.m. Saturday at 2nd Street and Erie Avenue in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia.

Lilliana Acevedo, 29, was struck while she was on Erie Avenue.

She was there for a family party and leaning in the back of her car to get something when she was hit. The car that hit her is described as a white Oldsmobile Delta 88. The vehicle will now have damage to the passenger side.

The driver fled west on Erie Avenue.

Acevedo worked in admissions at St. Joseph's Hospital. She lived with and took care of her mother.

Family members are pleading with the driver to surrender.

"Lilliana, my baby girl Lilliana, she was a beautiful girl," said aunt Maria Adames. "She was hit and left for dead in the middle of the street. We're asking if anybody saw anything to please, please call police and let them know what you saw."

Acevedo's godparents say she comes from a large family that often gets together. Sadly, they will now be getting together for her funeral.

"She was a wonderful person, a great human being," said godmother Carmen Gonzales. "The family is devastated."

"What puzzles us is that it's such a wide, open street... how can someone not see and travel so close to another vehicle, a parked vehicle," said godfather Angel Gonzalez. "That's what we're wondering."

Anyone with information can call Philadelphia Police at (215) 686-TIPS.
