Another arrest in killing of Penn Wood student

EAST LANSDOWNE, Pa. - May 3, 2010

Devon Lamar Ellis, Jr., 18, of the 6600 block of North 20th Street in Philadelphia, surrendered to authorities on Monday afternoon.

He was wanted in connection with the shooting death of Mohamed Kamara on April 13th in East Lansdowne.

The man who allegedly pulled the trigger, 18-year-old Tristin Fisher, had been previously arrested.

During the course of the investigation, officials said Kamara got into a fistfight on Lexington Avenue and got the best of his opponent, now believed to be Ellis.

The D.A. said Kamara then began to approach Fisher, who opened fire.

Police say, on the day of the shooting, a witness only described a 'young man' called 911 to try and get help for Kamara. However, as he tried to make the call, Fisher rubbed the gun with a cloth and handed it to Ellis.

Ellis then allegedly pointed the gun at the caller, and said to give up the phone or the 'same thing' would happen to him. The caller gave up the phone and the suspects fled.

Investigators have not said what instigated the fight. Fisher is from Northeast Philadelphia and it's unclear why he was in East Lansdowne.

Ellis is being held for his arraignment on Monday afternoon.

Kamara was a senior at Penn Wood High School, who dreamed of a career in business. Relatives say he had several scholarship offers for academics including one to Wesley College in Delaware.
