Brewerytown condo fire injures 1, chases 20

BREWERYTOWN - May 20, 2010

Residents say it looked like the fire broke out Thursday morrning at around 3:00, on a back balcony of the building on the 3100 block of Masters Street .

One of the residents, Kevin Couloures, told Action News what he first heard.

"Well, initially, just the sound of something falling. And then, heard somebody shouting, 'help me get out.' So we told them we had called 9-1-1."

Witnesses first saw embers in the back of a condo suddenly explode into flames.

The inferno quickly went to two alarms.

Firefighters evacuated about 20 people from two dozen units.

One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

The condos were opened between three and five years ago.

They were built as part of an effort to revitalize the neighborhood.

Investigators are looking for the cause.
