81 charges filed in wrong-way Pa. crashes

ROCHESTER, Pa. - May 28, 2010

Police say 31-year-old Robert Walthour, of Hopatcong, N.J., drove eastbound for about 10 miles in the westbound lanes of the turnpike near Rochester, Beaver County on Wednesday.

He was charged Thursday with several counts each of aggravated and simple assault and reckless endangerment. He's also charged with aggravated assault with a vehicle while driving under the influence of an unspecified controlled substance.

Officials say two people were hurt in crashes trying to avoid Walthour, and a third when he collided with a van.

Walthour remained hospitalized and court records don't list an attorney for him.
