Police: Man tried to break into occupied home

NEWARK, Del. - July 7, 2010

It happened around 9:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 100 block of Woodland Road in Newark, Delaware.

Police say a woman called 911 after she saw a man trying to break into the rear of her home. She said she screamed and made eye contact with the man, who continued to try and break in.

He fled only when she hit her panic alarm.

A short time later, police saw a man, identified as Russell White, Jr., 30, running along Old Baltimore Pike. The officer stopped White, who found he was carrying a handgun concealed in the small of his back. Police say he also had a knife and burglar's tools inside his pockets.

White was charged with: attempted burglary, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of possession of a firearm/ammunition by a person (convicted felon), carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of burglar's tools.

Police also found White was wanted by the State of New York for violation of probation.
