Two firefighters hurt in West Phila. fire

WEST PHILADELPHIA - September 1, 2010

It began around 2:30 p.m. in the 300 block of North 40th Street.

Rescuers arrived to find a fire in a three-story building that houses apartments.

The second and third floor were on fire, and the flames were placed under control just before 3:00 p.m.

The two injured firefighters suffered first and second degree burns.

There is no word yet on how those firefighters were injured.

The Red Cross is assisting at least eight people who were put out by the fire.

In all, six apartments were damaged, though one was vacant.
