Pa. man surrenders after 34-hour standoff

READING, Pa. - October 3, 2010

Police in Berks County said the 42-year-old Reinholds man walked out of the house at 10:30 p.m. Saturday and was taken to Reading Hospital for a psychiatric evaluation. The Reading Eagle says his mother, who is in her 60s, was not injured but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Authorities say the standoff began at about noon Friday after a caretaker reported the man walking around the house with a pistol and threatening to shoot. After the caretaker called police, the man barricaded himself and his mother inside and held county police and later state police at bay for 34 hours.
