It happened at 4th Street and Callowhill in Old City.
Police say a police cruiser and a car collided shortly before seven this morning, causing the police car to slam into a stone wall.
Both the officer and the driver of the car were trapped.
It took rescuers 20 minutes to free the officer, who is hospitalized in stable condition.
