Temple program helps unemployed stop smoking

PHILADELPHIA - February 10, 2011

People who are out of work, or job-hunting, face added emotional stress and financial pressures that can make quitting more difficult.

The Temple experts will teach them how to handle that stress without smoking and how to stay off cigarettes.

"People in the program are going to have group counseling, we'll have two smoking cessation experts they would offer counseling skills training, support, problem solving, all around quitting smoking, and relapse prevention," said Brad Collins of Temple University.

Participants will also get free nicotine patches or gum through the city's "Smoke-Free Philly" campaign.
