Soon you can have a rainbow anytime

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - February 22, 2011

There's an artist.

Michael Jones McKean is creating a rainbow-making machine.

The assistant professor at Virginia Commonwealth University uses a large-scale sprinkler system and natural sunlight to produce rainbows nearly as long as four football fields.

McKean's run smaller-scale tests at his Richmond studio.

He hopes to have a full-sized rainbow machine running later this year at an art center in Omaha, Nebraska.

He notes his artificial rainbows are green.

He says he uses recycled rainwater and biodiesel fuel to power the device.
