Thirty-eight-year-old Lamont Gadson of Jackson is charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and causing a death while driving with a suspended license. He faces up to 15 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
Ocean County prosecutors say Gadson was driving his car in Lakewood last May when he hit a motorcycle operated by Angelo Vasile. He then drove off and abandoned the vehicle.
Vasile, a 36-year-old Beachwood resident who had served with the Harvey Cedars police force for six years, died shortly after the crash.
A telephone number for Gadson could not be located Sunday.
