Dion returns to recession-hit Vegas with new show

LAS VEGAS (AP) - March 15, 2011

Dion hopes to mirror or surpass her previous success at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. But Las Vegas went through a brutal recession after she left in 2007 and is recovering from the crash.

The show is slated to open Tuesday night. Gone are the Cirque du Soleil-style theatrics that saw Dion harnessed to a cable and flown in the air during her first show at Caesars. Instead, she will sing her hits and other unexpected tunes.

She'll also be balancing new additions to her family: she gave birth to twin boys nearly five months ago.

Executives hope Dion will sell out nightly concerts, despite Nevada's record unemployment and sluggish tourism.
