Fishing boat gets stuck off Jersey shore

A fishing boat spent much of Friday afternoon listing in the Great Egg Harbor Inlet after it ran aground on a shoal.

The inlet runs between Longport and Ocean City.

The Hannah H. Avery, a 55 foot commercial boat, ran aground at low tide.

By 12:30 p.m., a tow boat was on hand to help the fishing vessel and help get it off the sandbar.

Boaters in the area tell Action News that the Great Egg Harbor Inlet can be tricky to navigate. The sand bars have moved around a great deal in recent years and boats can get in trouble at low tide even if in the captains follow the buoy markers.
