Sharpton, national union leaders to rally in NJ

TRENTON, N.J. - April 26, 2011

Sharpton will be joined Tuesday by American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten and Lee Saunders, international secretary- treasurer of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

The three will lead a morning rally to protest the closing of a psychiatric facility in Vineland. They'll participate in a panel discussion with state lawmakers at noon, then lead an evening rally in Newark.

Labor leaders say budget cuts are putting a squeeze on the middle-class and working families.

Gov. Chris Christie's proposed budget calls for saving $1.6 million a year by shutting the Vineland Developmental Center.

The governor also wants to overhaul teacher tenure.
